Tonight, Seattle’s beloved garage rock trio The Blakes are playing a CD release party at Neumos (8 p.m. doors, $12 advance, 21+) for their new self-released LP, Souvenir, due out October 13. The Blakes blew up big with their Brit Invasion by way of Detroit rock style following the success of 2005’s Little Whispers. The band signed to local label Light in the Attic, but like every other record deal these days, it has apparently fallen through after an EP and the re-release of their 2001 self-titled debut. On the new album, the band seems to be moving south through the U.S. style-wise, with some bluesier sixties twang getting in. The show promises to be killer, with The Blakes supported by local psychedelic rockers The Purrs and art-punk outfit Strong Killings.

Great music – as always. And love the cover art. The insides scoop: drawings are by BENDOW, a doodler and designer as his business card reads, and also a Los Angeles high school student whose top college choice is Evergreen State College. Website is a work-in-progress: bendow-art [dot] com
