At last night’s co-headlining double-header at Neumo’s–and once again, I love solid two-band lineups on a school night–Jack Peñate came out and put on a great show. He had a tight set, with the songs from Everything is New more ass-shaking live than on the album, a set so good that it made my straight male friend question his sexuality. (Look, it’s not gay if he happens to be the prettiest girl you’ve ever seen.) Jack was high energy to say the least; for every song, he spazzed out, and I mean that in the best possible way.
And then Miike Snow came out and killed it.
KILLED IT. The trio becomes a five-piece live, and the satin jackets were back, but this time around, they started out also bemasked, which is both creepy and fitting for a band that makes dance songs about the innate flaws in human nature. And dance the crowd did–Miike Snow only played seven songs from their self-titled debut, but there were enough extended dance remix house breaks to stretch the set into an hour and keep everybody happy, even if there was no encore. It was one of those shows where you’re dancing and having a great time and jumping around with a big dumb grin on your face, and you look around, and everyone else is also dancing and having a great time and jumping around with big dumb grins on their faces. It’s all too rare in Seattle. The next time this band comes to town, we’ll be there again, and this time we’re bringing techno-leaning friends.
