Satellites being as high-tech as they are, it’s not all that amazing that Sunday’s dust storm in eastern Washington was visible from space. But it’s still amazing to see. “In the north, the dust seems to rise primarily from the pale golden squares of fields farmed using dryland agriculture, a common practice in arid eastern Washington,” says Earth Observatory. “These fields are likely either fallow or newly planted, probably with winter wheat, a common dryland crop in eastern Washington.” I-90 reopened overnight.
