Our Olympics Have Plenty of Snow

The Vancouver Olympic Games are “snow-challenged,” thanks to an El Nino weather pattern that’s sluiced away sixteen inches of snow from Cypress Mountain since January 1. In Seattle, El Nino has resulted in great, atmosphere-magnified views of the surrounding mountainscapes in all directions.

    I was reveling in the mountains’ beauty this morning as I rode the 8 down Denny (kept looking back over my shoulder) and then walked down Harvard to work. That view of Space Needle against clear, snowy mountains – so gorgeous.

    The mountains and Needle were out of a pop-up book this morning. I nearly fell off my bike when I caught my first glimpse.
