Local bus service is not “fast transit” (although there is plenty more the City could do to improve transit speeds within Seattle, but it requires political will) but it’s an absolute necessity for many Seattle citizens. Mr. van Baker is correct IMO to point out the inconsistencies in Burgess’ thinking on this issue. And extremely correct to point out that fare increases are NOT the answer to the situation in which Metro finds itself. We’ve already done that – a LOT of late – and it simply doesn’t scale big enough to deal with the size of the problem.
