Hey, Seattle! Pride Weekend is just around the corner, and the lovely ladies who are organizing the 17th Annual Seattle Dyke March (June 25th) have come up a few dollars short. Oh, the horror!
To help close the budgetary gap, our good friends at Tommy Gun (1703 E. Olive Way, on Capitol Hill) are hosting a benefit party Friday, June 17th (that’s tomorrow) at 8 p.m. Grab your girlfriend, your boyfriend, your sister, your brother, your neighbor, a perfect stranger or two, and get your groove on for a great cause. They’ve a got DJ Derek Pavone spinning after 9 p.m., drink specials, and a raffle. (Every benefit needs a raffle! What kind of benefit would it be without a raffle?) And 100% of the $10 cover will go to help fund the Dyke March.
The Pride Parade itself receives corporate sponsorship, but the Dyke March is homegrown and grass roots, funded by donations from actual people and organized by volunteers. For over seventeen years the Dyke March Committee has gathered thousands of supporters at the corner of Broadway and Pine, featured hundreds of speakers from throughout the world, and taken to the streets in display of community solidarity. So, go be a people: hang out with lesbians (because lesbians are awesome-cakes), win fabulous prizes, and, of course, drink responsibly. Or irresponsibly–what am I, your mother?
