Sondre Lerche’s “Pop Gems” Shine at the Croc Saturday

Stereogum decodes Sondre Lerche‘s “Private Caller” video for you: “Lerche and his band play on stage, while glamorous women of various ages and hair colors look on moodily. There’s some eccentric mid-century styling here — vintage mirrors, glasses, clothing — that makes it seems like Lerche’s playing for a group of ladies that just popped out of a time capsule. That might explain their moodiness.”

Lerche arrives at the Crocodile this Saturday, June 25, on tour in support of his new self-titled album which, Stereogum again, has been called “pitch-perfect pop music.” For good measure, American Songwriter calls it “a series of insanely intricate pop gems.” He’s the headliner on a bill that includes Nightlands and Kishi Bashi.

I’ve had the chance to catch the Bergen, Norway, born-and-raised Lerche a few times now, and can vouch for the fact that the adulation is not hype. He’s even better live.
