The three works were all written within a span of about 15 years, Rite in 1913, Paris in 1928 and Ameriques between 1918 and 1922. It was a time of artistic ferment in Paris, even during WWI, beginning the same kind of musical upheaval which had occurred in Italy at the very end of the 16th and early 17th centuries when the Florentine Camerata and composers like Monteverdi realized that one could express all kinds of emotions dramatically in music, culminating in the birth of opera. Cantwell: Coastal Doppler Radar “Fully Operational” Rebels Within Grasp

U.S. Senator Maria Cantwell (D-WA) is the main reason that Washington (the state) has a new coastal Doppler weather radar station, and a year ahead of schedule at that, so she took pride of place at the ribbon-cutting ceremony on Langley Hill in Grays Harbor on Thursday.

Cantwell managed to geese an unneeded Air Force NEXRAD radar from Keesler Air Force Base, which meant we didn’t have to wait for a new radar to be built, and shaved nearly $3 million from the projected cost, to boot. Beginning September 30 and running through October 16, the Cinerama Theater is presenting The Big Screen 70mm Film Festival.

They don’t make movies like this anymore.

In a day and age when consumers want content on the “best screen available,” we’ve gotten accustomed to watching films on iPhones, iPods and iPads. The Metropolitan Grill Has a New Manhattan Champion

Last Thursday, the Metropolitan Grill hosted its second annual employee Manhattan contest. So The SunBreak attended the private event, in which VIP guests and celebrity judges–a.k.a. Ronald Holden and local TV anchors–sampled the five cocktail finalists and voted for their favorite.
