Tomatoes and Grapes Dominate Weekend Culinary Events

by on September 13, 2011

If you can make it, this weekend brings two fantastic events that will showcase tomatoes, grapes, and maybe even grape tomatoes.

Saturday (September 17) is the second annual TomatoFare West affair at Cedarbrook Lodge from 1-5pm. The event will include chefs like Lark’s Johnathan Sundstrom preparing dishes using local heirloom tomatoes. To go along with those dishes, you can enjoy pours from area wineries and breweries, and listen to live music, too. With hope that the weather holds, it’s a lovely, leisurely afternoon in Cedarbrook’s garden area, with tomato education opportunities as well. Tickets to TomatoFare are $25 in advance, and $35 the day of the event.

Sunday (September 18) brings Blend to the Bell Harbor Conference Center on Pier 66 from 4-7pm. Here you can relax in the Bubble Lounge, featuring sparkling wine and champagne, along with oysters from Taylor Shellfish Farms. Then, sample wines from over 40 producers, as well as intriguing dishes prepared by chefs from Columbia Hospitality Company’s collection of properties, including the Inn at Langley, Friday Harbor House, Salish Lodge, Cave B Inn & Spa, and more. Tickets to Blend are $59 (admission includes a take-home wine glass and an opportunity to win getaways), but if you act today (September 13), you can take advantage of a half-price discount at LivingSocial.
