Feasting on Happy Hour at Meza
Capitol Hill’s 14th Avenue tapas restaurant Meza has had its share of drama in the past few months, after owner Alex moved to L.A., and the manager who took over the business was quickly busted for selling booze under the table. (CHS has covered this story extensively.)
Anyhoo, things have calmed down at Meza under Philip Heier’s new management, with sandwich boards all over the Hill pushing their new lunchtime offerings and happy hour hard. From 3 to 7 p.m. and again starting at 10 p.m., it’s 30 percent off all food and drink, except for one column of the menu, arepitas. Plus, there are various deals every day of the week (Mojito Mondays, Sauza Saturdays…I was there on a Flan Friday). So you can eat and drink quite a bit for not much money. Keep apprised via the social networks, natch.
Check out the photos above of a happy hour feast at Meza. The Spanish serrano ham and cheese topped with hard-boiled eggs was maybe my favorite bite of the whole meal. Meanwhile, La Lonja, a filet of fish of the day, came with tangy green salsa and more great bread–all of Meza’s is from Macrina. And seriously, you can’t go wrong with a sandwich with mac and cheese in it.
Of course, you need to try some of the house-infused vodkas, which you can sample for $3 a pop ($2 during happy hour). There’s now about fifteen flavors on the menu, so feel free to try a few at a time. I remain partial to the strawberry.
