Zoe | Juniper’s “A Crack in Everything” at On the Boards This Week

As the stage explodes with light, the company of four (three women, one man) dancers ups the tempo of the piece considerably in the upstage area, while Scofield herself performs a long left-to-right solo across the glass, spinning and moving herself slowly, the whole while tracing (parts of) her silhouette in a red marker on the glass. It’s long and forceful, and what we’re ultimately left with is a beautiful image capturing the spirit of the piece. College Football in Washington Just Got a Lot More Interesting

From the end of World War I until Tuesday, Washington State had hired 16 head football coaches. Of those 16, only 1 had ever before won even a single game as major-college coach–Dennis Erickson, who’d won six. On Wednesday, WSU hired certified offensive genius Mike Leach. Total major-college football wins: 84.

As Texas Tech’s head coach from 2000-2009, Leach won those 84 games and led the Red Raiders to ten consecutive bowl appearances. He watched his innovative offense score 40 or more points in a game 56 times. Continue reading College Football in Washington Just Got a Lot More Interesting

Gregoire to Feds, on Medical Marijuana: Reclassify It!

Washington Governor Christine Gregoire and Rhode Island’s Lincoln Chafee are requesting that the FDA reclassify marijuana as a Schedule II controlled substance, from the Schedule I position it now holds.

Seattle Bubble Commenters Explain the State’s Budget for You

Seattle Bubble readers are sharp cookies. The very first commenter zeroes in on the difference between the state’s past obligations and current spending: “Like most states and cities, the increase is from pensions (retired state employees living longer, with bigger pensions), and from health care costs for both current and retired employees and medicaid recipients outstripping inflation by a large margin. $2 billion removed from what’s left after these and other mandatory spending hits the remaining programs very hard.” Continue reading Seattle Bubble Commenters Explain the State’s Budget for You

Seattle’s Film Lovers Returning to the Uptown

Seattle’s Film Lovers Returning to the Uptown

In the lobby a group of a half-dozen 50-somethings had just met en route between theatres (the Uptown has three salles), and were comparing notes. It seemed half had come from Elite Squad 2 and were headed into London Boulevard, and half were headed the other way. “Have you seen Le Havre?” someone asked, and there was a discreet pause. It developed that some people had loved it, but not the speaker. Continue reading Seattle’s Film Lovers Returning to the Uptown
