Wow--winner of Best Comment of the Month, right here! Thank you. This is great information. I had also heard that the Ocean Harbor Aquarium was not-to-be-missed (even though I missed it). Next time!

My boyfriend and I were just there last week! We stayed at the Westin Ka'anapali Villas, and went to the Old Lahaina Luau instead of the one offered by the Sheraton. It was expensive, but a lot of fun with lots of great food. We didn't go on the sugar train ride or see the coffee farm or brewery, but we have a few recommendations of our own to make.

The Warren and Annabelle's Magic Show was really fun. The ambience was incredibly cheesy (you have to answer a riddle in Annabelle's 'Ghost Room' to enter the club, and piano requests are taken by the resident 'ghost'), but the magic show was legit. I hear that it's not worth going to unless you're in the front row, but I can't vouch for that because we scored seats right in front of the magicians. (This was only because we were one of the four youngest couples there, and were thus participants in the show)

They offer a full meal as part of the show's package, but we skipped out on the meal to have dinner on our own, so I don't know how the food is. The drinks were pretty watered down and expensive, but the chocolate creme de pot is to die for.

I also strongly recommend not only summiting Mount Haleakala but the drive around it. Don't just do the first half; the views on the second half are absolutely stunning. If you are prone to motion sickness, take dramamine. You do not want to miss a single view of the landscape. The roads do get a little hairy though; at one point we actually had to get out and remove tree branches.

Finally, The Ocean Harbor Aquarium has really expensive admission rates, but is completely worth it. We went snorkeling (my boyfriend also went on a couple dives), but even then didn't see a lot of the fish they had in their exhibits.

Otherwise, Aloha Mixed Plate was by far our favorite restaurant there. Local specialties at the lowest prices you'll find in Maui and really friendly service. I really liked the Kalua Pork Sandwich.

I loved the experience, but I got really, really bored after about four days. My attention span is so short that I can't really laze around on the beach for extended periods of time, but there isn't a whole lot else to do on the island. The spa was attractive until I saw the ridiculous rates the Westin charges. I can't wait to go back next year, but I don't think I'd stay longer than about four days.
