After the Windstorm, How About a Little Snow?

KOMO’s Scott Sistek and Seth Wayne think they spy some convergence zone snow with their little eyes, arriving as soon as 10 p.m. tonight. By noon Tuesday any snow that’s going to fall should have fallen, perhaps 1 to 3 inches. Locations around the Sound that could see flakes:

…greater Everett/Southwestern Snohomish County areas (including Mill Creek, Lake Stevens, Lynnwood, Mukilteo and Mountlake Terrace), as well as the Cascade foothills of Snohomish and north King County…

As always with convergence zone predictions, this is highly geographically variable. And they don’t expect downtown Seattle or Bellevue to have to worry.

Meanwhile UW meteorologist Cliff Mass has an update on our windstorm: “For Washington, 60 mph+ along the coast, with 40-60 mph in the Strait.  40-50 mph gusts in southern Puget Sound, with higher winds (up to around 60 mph) in the southern Sound.”

I decided to shift into storm-chaser mode, and drove yesterday afternoon out to Westport to see what the surf looked like. As I arrived after dark, it didn’t look like much at all. This morning’s light afforded a little more drama. But even the majestic Chateau Westport seemed to shudder in the gale–not the building so much as the floor-to-ceiling sliding glass doors, opening to the deck. You could see the glass flexing during gusts. The howling went on all night.

It’s the off-season, so you can get a room with an ocean view, a kitchenette, and a fireplace (comes complete with log) for $114. There’s also a pool and hot tub. For more views, just a little ways further on, you can find the Half Moon Bar & Grill perched marina side. It’s part of the Islander hotel, which boasts a startling extensive Hawaiian theme, including surfboards and an array of tchotchkes, and in the Bar & Grill, Kona Longboard beer and pulled pork dishes.
