Personally, I think restoring Glass-Steagall makes a good deal of sense if the government is going to continue to back deposits. I understand that banks with joint operations may consider this a step backwards, but I haven’t yet seen a bank-generated solution to the Too Big Too Fail dilemma. Currently, it’s a bit like a NASCAR driver trying to sneak into the line for consumer car insurance rates.
