Around the SunBreak office, we’ve been enjoying this new summer jam, “Wake Up” from the quite-excellent local band Wiscon. A few years ago, Tony Kay wrote here that frontwoman (and former NighTraiN drummer) Taryn Dorsey is “like a member of the Ronettes being backed by Devo,” and there are few better ways to get my attention.
“Wake Up” was recorded by Brandon Eggleston at Chris Walla’s Hall of Justice studio in lovely Ballard. It’s just a great song for the higher temperatures (or what passes for that in Seattle) with its cool, girl group harmony and bouncy, new, new wave keyboards. “Wake Up” is the type of song you put on your summer, beach playlist and people ask “Who was that?” and “Can you play that again?”
Wiscon can next be found at Neumos on August 17, it’s a Wednesday, and it’s Michael Jackson’s birthday. You wouldn’t want to miss that.
