For more than fifteen years, Teatro Zinzanni has been a fixture in Seattle. There’s simply nothing like it. It’s a cabaret and interactive show, with dinner served. The show changes three times a year, with the latest called When Sparks Fly, an interpretation of Frankenstein that involves grants from the Gates Foundation, illusions, a reenactment of Godzilla, acrobatics, and more. Sparks Will Fly features a cast that includes Dreya Weber, a singer/actress/choreographer/aerialist who has choreographed nearly everyone in pop music, including two of Pink’s Grammy performances. Another star, Elena Gatilova, is a world champion rhythmic gymnast.
The locally-based energy/hydration drink company Golazo recently held a contest called “Play with DeAndre.” It meant that one lucky winner (and nine of their closest friends) would have DeAndre Yedlin, the 21-year old Sounders FC and USA Men’s National Team star defender, come by their home and have some pizza, drink Golazo, and play FIFA Soccer in a truck customized for playing video games. The contest was realized last Friday night, at the home of Nick Gurney, somewhere around Burien or White Center. It was a unique opportunity for a Seattleite to spend some time with the fast rising soccer star.
Yoram Bauman is something of a favorite around SunBreak HQ. He’s a PhD environmental economist and calls himself “the world’s first and only stand-up economist.” MvB wrote highly of Bauman’s “Cartoon Introduction” books on microeconomics and macroeconomics. Back in 2012, MvB wrote, “The part of the book he got the most pushback on, from other economists, was the chapter on climate change (“The End of Planet Earth?”), but as an environmental economist, Bauman wasn’t about to let this opportunity slip by.” It shouldn’t be a terrible surprise that Bauman expanded that chapter into an entire book for The Cartoon Introduction to […]

You are reading an excerpt from Yoram Bauman writes the <del>book</del> graphic novel on climate change.

The SunBreak supports RSS for you diehard RSS readers out there.

It’s official, folks: You no longer need to don haz-mat gear to use the bathrooms at the Comet Tavern. One of Capitol Hill’s most venerable watering holes (it’s been open since 1938), the Comet officially re-opens in extensively cleaned-up form to the public today, some five months after a melange of financial and logistic issues closed its doors. The tavern’s transformed pretty radically, with a much more open ceiling and a bit more natural light. Simple wooden booths, tables and benches comprise most of the furnishings, and wooden support beams lend a faint hint of country-pub hominess.
