Tuesday night The Wing Dome in West Seattle held the first (annual?) 7-Alarm Challenge for Charity. A handful of local media types were invited to attempt to devour wings so hot they can make you cry. Initially, the event was meant to be a team challenge, but most people came alone. I had intended on competing along with my friend Montine, but since most were doing it alone, I quickly deputized her and put her in The SunBreak's seat on stage.
Here she is before the pain started.
The event was 15 minutes of mayhem! In the end, King5's Jesse Jones was named the individual winner with 12 wings eaten and at least as many sweat drenched napkins. Our own Montine downed 9 of the 7-Alarm wings, no small feat for sure. Jesse won a $500 donation to Northwest Harvest in his name!
A lot more photos from the event:
Longtime punk band Bad Religion rocked the Showbox SoDo last night as part of their 30th anniversary tour. Thirty years as a band and fifteen studio albums later, they can still deliver one of the best punk shows you will likely see. If you were among the very packed (the show was sold out!) crowd last night, you know what I'm talking about. If you weren't there, well, you will just have to make do with these photos from the show. Enjoy!

Proletariat Pizza - Half Cinco, Half Margharita
They say the pizza in New York City is so good because of the quality of the municipal water used to make the pizza dough. Well, if that is true, then White Center must have some of the best water in the state. I say this because Proletariat Pizza is some of the best I have ever had in my life. Though to be fair, I should point out that I have never been to New York. But based on online reviews, I'm not alone in thinking this way. The pizzas are consistently delicious. I have been back five times now, and not once did I finish eating and think, "It was better last time."
The pizzas are all 18-inch thin crust pies. You can order a 1/2-size of any pizza if a full one is too much. As far as toppings go, you can build your own with most of the traditional fare along with some surprising extras, like Mama Lil's peppers and Spam. However, the signature pies are all pretty good too. Personally I have tried The Favorite (Italian sausage, fresh chopped garlic, Mama Lil's peppers), The Real Hawaiian (pineapple and Spam), Margherita (basil, fresh tomato and fresh mozzarella), and the Cinco. The Cinco is my hands-down favorite, consisting of fontina, provolone, asiago, gorgonzola, and mozzarella cheeses. The full menu can be found on their website.
It may sound like I am gushing over this place like a teenager with a massive crush. Well, I am doing that. But they totally deserve it! If you are a fan of pizza, you owe it to yourself to get down to White Center and try this place out. But make sure you go early--they have been known to sell out of dough on Friday and Saturday nights before 7:30 p.m.
As good as the food is here, it doesn't stop there. They have a bunch of video games that should remind you of that arcade you loved in the early '90s, along with a play area for the kids. The owners have a young daughter themselves, and she is often playing with the toys and any other kids around.
Proletariat Pizza is at 9622 16th Avenue SW in White Center. They are open Monday through Saturday from 4-9pm. Feel free to call them at 206.432.9765 before you head over there if you are concerned about them being out of dough. They also do take-out orders.
