This fall, the University Village shopping center welcomes no fewer than 12 new retail and dining establishments, including the grownup hipster-wear of Amsterdam's Scotch & Soda, resort-wear from Calypso St. Barth, mom-wear ("Hello, waist!" -- their quote, not ours) from Hot Mama, and eyewear from Sunglass Hut.

Our neighbor to the south is the site for Feast Portland, a four-day celebration of Oregon bounty drawing chef, farmers, winemakers, distillers, artisans, and attendees from the city and beyond. The Sandwich Invitational was the opening event, a competition featuring a wide range of sandwich-makers. Two came from Seattle: Ethan Stowell and Branden Karow from Staple & Fancy, and Molly Moon Neitzel from ice cream empire Molly Moon's, demonstrating that sandwiches can range from savory to sweet.

Given Marination Mobile’s recent opening of Marination Station at Pike and Broadway, and Skillet setting up shop nearby at 14th and Union (Josh Henderson tells me to expect a mid-late May opening), street food is getting easier to find when you want it—especially if you live on Capitol Hill.
