The U Village powers-that-be decided to slap a slab on the project when it reached ground level, paint parking stripes on it, and resume work in January 2013, after the holiday shopping season. The verdict was not particularly surprising: WSDOT has been aggressive with its timeline for the bridge construction, which has the effect of creating a sunk investment if the project is delayed or halted. Opponents of the bridge’s expansion have had difficulty bending any “ears of power.” In this economic climate, few are interested in taking the political hit sinking the mega-bridge would require. The scene for the ride’s start is the University of Washington E-1 parking lot, on Montlake Blvd., just north of Husky Stadium. One-day riders depart from 4:45 a.m. to 5:15 a.m., and everyone else from 5:15 a.m. to 7:30 a.m., in 10-minute waves.
