Seattle Public Library Has Got Your Netflix-Style Streaming Right Here

Seattle Public Library has gone, well, public with their streaming media partnership with Hoopla. The collection -- of movies, TV shows, albums, and audio books -- is Hoopla's, which is why I'm watching African Queen. They have 10,000 films and TV titles, Netflix has 60,000.

Here we are in the second full week of the Seattle International Film Festival, and things are starting to get a little bleary for the passholder completists running hither and yon to take advantage of their all-you-can-screen status. For the rest of us, the steady, soothing flow of movies at SIFF represents a chance to hook a few films that might otherwise slip past us. So let's take a closer look at what's showing the next few days.

Scandal! Bias! Just 3 Sports Movies at SIFF 2103

SIFF will present 272 feature films this year and only 3 of them are principally concerned with sports. While I hold out hope that "An Evening with Kyle MacLachlan" will focus on his youth golfing career in Yakima, I suspect that this will not be the case. Three nights -- 1.1 percent of the festival's entries -- are all you get, sports fans.

Kiraostami’s one of the few directors (try finding one inside Hollywood) who trusts his viewers to have a brain: It’s as gobsmacking as that. Kiraostami likes to cut cross-sections into people’s lives, but he doesn’t like to backtrack or future-trip. He wants you to figure things out for yourself and if you have to surmount that to make your own meanings, that’s okay too.

Pacific Place Parking Wants Your Two Dollars

The good news for bargain parking shoppers is that overall parking rates at Pacific Place downtown have been reduced 20 to 60 percent for the first three-and-a-half hours of parking. Evening rates now top out at $6 total, and there will be a game day special of $6 for major sporting events if you show your game ticket. The new rates went into effect as of June 1, 2011, and will remain good through September 30.
