Seattle artist Trimpin is back with a multi-sensory performance honoring prisoners at a World War II labor camp. "The Gurs Zyklus" premiered at On the Boards last night and features a collection of Trimpin's sculptures and art installations, including the intriguing "fire organ".

You are reading an excerpt from Trimpin's "The Gurs Zyklus" Blends Sculpture, Theater, and Musical Performance.

The SunBreak supports RSS for you diehard RSS readers out there.

Te haré invencible con mi derrota is the gnomic title of Angélica Liddell's deeply unsettling performance (at On the Boards tonight and Sunday, she's taking Saturday to recuperate; tickets: $25). It means "I will make you invincible with my defeat," although the performance may defeat you, if you have a low tolerance for someone drunkenly slicing into herself with razor blades, driving broken glass into her back, or piercing her fingers like a pin cushion, while you watch.

You are reading an excerpt from You Will Be Invincible, or Angélica Liddell Will Die Trying.

The SunBreak supports RSS for you diehard RSS readers out there.

In some ways I would prefer not to say anything about "L'Effet de Serge," playing through Sunday at On the Boards. This latest work from Vivarium Studio plays so much upon your expectations of theater and performance that it's like a surprise gift, and you wouldn't want me to pull the wrapping off for you.

On the other hand, description can't tell you what to expect from the experience--even after reading up on the show beforehand, I didn't. What I can say is that the show provokes an almost continuous, slightly giddy laughter, even though nothing all that much takes place.

You are reading an excerpt from Vivarium Studio Proves Small is Beautiful...and Fun (Review).

The SunBreak supports RSS for you diehard RSS readers out there.
