I think rösti best eaten just after an Alpine excursion, or failing that, several walks up and down a small hill. In that latter case, if you're near Thun, Gasthof Kreuz in Amsoldingen works perfectly. It's a family-run place, overlooking Thun and frequented by locals.

You are reading an excerpt from It's Not Switzerland Until You've Melted Some Cheese.

The SunBreak supports RSS for you diehard RSS readers out there.

"The Burger," as it's known, is $14, and it comes with a thick patty of Painted Hills beef, arugula, bacon jam, and creamy Bleu cheese on a bun that tastes, and chews, like a fresh loaf of baked bread. I dislike paying $14 for a burger, but you can see, and taste, what you're paying for. The personable burgers come with salad or fries, but for another $3 you can sub in Skillet's poutine. Be hungry, or be with hungry friends, if you do this, because the poutine piled up on the plate will easily defeat the unprepared diner.

You are reading an excerpt from For Lunch, Skillet's Burger & Poutine (Photo Gallery).

The SunBreak supports RSS for you diehard RSS readers out there.

You don’t have to race down mountains on skis or a bike to enjoy Whistler. You and your loved one can enjoy the outdoors and other activities in a more relaxing, romantic way. Here are ideas for a memorable day in Whistler, where we stamp this week’s Passport to Pleasure—a hedonistic quest for great food and good times for two, from nibbles to naughtiness.

You are reading an excerpt from Passport to Pleasure: A Relaxing Retreat to Whistler.

The SunBreak supports RSS for you diehard RSS readers out there.
