I was bearing witness to the wrath of the Gods writ in towering, terrifying grandeur. And I believed.

You are reading an excerpt from How Ray Harryhausen Changed My World (and Yours, Too).

The SunBreak supports RSS for you diehard RSS readers out there.

Carpenter’s film had it over this one in claustrophobic atmosphere, slowly mounting horror, and sheer insanity of the special effects (kudos to Rob Bottin and Stan Winston). But here Mary Elizabeth Winstead stands out, not only as one of the few women on a male-dominated expedition, but as the voice of reason and sensibility. That becomes all the more important as the Thing unfreezes and her expedition-mates start sprouting new limbs, eyes, ears, fangs, claws, and assorted appendages both useful and simply gross.

You are reading an excerpt from The More The Thing Prequel Changes the More it Stays the Same.

The SunBreak supports RSS for you diehard RSS readers out there.

Krystof Zlatnik seems quietly awestruck by the uncharacteristically sunny Seattle day that greets him. “It’s quite beautiful outside,” he acknowleges with a smile. It’s appropriate that the director and I leave the W Hotel’s black obelisk of a lobby to chat in the warmer, naturally-lit environs of a coffee shop next door.
