Seahawks to End One of Seattle’s Three Great Sports Droughts?

Seahawks to End One of Seattle’s Three Great Sports Droughts?

The 2012 NFL Draft begins Thursday, and is considered to be one of the deepest drafts ever by people who consider these things. The Seahawks pick twelfth overall, and are expected to take a pass-rushing defensive end. I am hoping they’re right. Getting a good, pass-rushing defensive end wouldn’t just address the weak link of the Seahawks defense, it would end a Seattle sports drought. The Sounders Are a Mac, The Mariners Are a PC

The Sounders Are a Mac, The Mariners Are a PC

The Seattle Sounders debuted four seasons ago with a marketing strategy that should seem very familiar. The Sounders targeted hip, young fans. The strategy is that if “the cool kids,” as Sounders’ top executive Adrian Hanauer calls them, go to Sounders games, families will want to follow. The Mariners, who feature fun-for-all-ages schtick like dancing groundskeepers, directly target families.

Ethan Stowell Goes to Bat with the Mariners, Bringing Gourmet Grub to Safeco ‘Pen

Fielder is entering his prime, and the Mariners manifestly are not. Continue reading Mariners Resume Crawl Toward Relevance, But “Let’s Not Kid Ourselves”

Wedge’s Last Stand? Mariners Manager Will Bat His Worst Hitter First

Probably you are already wondering: “Does Chone Figgins own pictures of Eric Wedge walking Aurora Ave. in high heels and a crop-top?” One struggles to find a less outlandish explanation. Wedge contends that Figgins will perform better in the leadoff role, where he batted while having more successful seasons with the Los Angeles Angels Continue reading Wedge’s Last Stand? Will Runless Mariners Be Fishing for a 285-Pounder?

Will Runless Mariners Be Fishing for a 285-Pounder?

In 2011, for the second consecutive season, the Mariners scored fewer runs than every other team in major league baseball, averaging just 3.43 per game. Runs, in baseball, being what business consultants call a “key success factor,” this is something the team needs to fix.

So the Mariner fan’s lustful eye immediately turns to the jewel of the 2012 free agent class, Milwaukee Brewers first baseman Prince Fielder. Continue reading Will Runless Mariners Be Fishing for a 285-Pounder?
