So here’s how the winning part works: All doodles need to be submitted by March 23. Then “a team of Googlers” and guest judges (Katy Perry, Phineas and Ferb creator and executive producer Jeff “Swampy” Marsh, recording artist Jordin Sparks) choose finalists. On May 2, a public vote will determine one winner from each grade group. First prize will be awarded on May 17th, with the winning Google doodler’s art showcased on google.com on May 18th. If you’re purchasing your first iPad, this is all to the good: the Retina display, the better resolution camera, the 4G speeds. But I have never taken a picture (other than trying it out) with my iPad 2, because my iPhone 4 is always with me and it’s much more conveniently sized. To save on data plans, I also opted for the WiFi-only version, again, relying on my iPhone 4 to fill in hotspot gaps. And while the Retina display is beautiful, it doesn’t improve the experience, say, of a choked Netflix stream delivering pixel-blocks–a far more common experience. Microsoft’s Touch Mouse is in the House (iMac Review)

It’s a little weird, because The SunBreak is a Mac house, and the Touch series is optimized for Windows 7. However, you know what? I really like Microsoft’s peripheral hardware. In my experience, it’s solidly built, ergonomic, and blessedly multi-function. This is unlike Apple’s crazy Magic Mouse with that “seamless, one-button design” that no one has ever wanted, or the Magic Trackpad, which I immediately threw across the room when the Touch showed up.
