Jim Blanchard's Celebrity Parade At Roq la Rue Tonight

Jim Blanchard is one of Roq la Rue's oldest artists, featured in their first show back in 1998. Tonight, he returns with Personality Parade, a series of portraits of Sixties and Seventies pop culture icons including Clint Eastwood, Steve McQueen, and Diana Rigg. Visually, Blanchard's work bears a similarity to Warhol's silkscreen work, but Blanchard is actually producing hand-painted images over a background color-field created using a series of stickers. Blanchard's line-work in the foreground portraits is meticulous and exact, the occasional pixelation a distinct artistic choice.

The opening is tonight, Fri., Sept. 11, from 6 to 9 p.m. (2312 Second Ave.), with music by DJ Vodka Twist, and runs through Oct. 3.
