Social Distortion - 13

Last night, Social Distortion played their first of three sold-out shows at Showbox SoDo. On the heels of a new album, the show pretty much had material spanning the band's entire history. The old songs sounded every bit as good as the new ones, and many had slightly new compositions. Amazing!

If you don't already have tickets to the remaining two shows, you could be out of luck, since they are sold out.

Shots from the show after the jump.

So?
Unable to get tickets due to scheduling issues, but I'd like more info here, s-North.

Does Mike still think he's the biggest badass to ever roam the planet? How did the new songs hold up? (they seem okay on disc, but not much more). What kind of new arrangements did you hear?

Inquiring minds need to know!

RE: So?
Mike didn't actually talk all that much. I certainly didn't think at any point that he was being arrogant or anything. The new songs really fit well in the set. They are different enough to stand out, but still have the core SxDx sound. Maybe a little more blues than past stuff though. The new arrangements that stood out to me were a slowed down brooding version of Cold Feelings, and a harder punk version of Making Believe. A few songs were a bit slower than what I was used to as well (like Sick Boy), which is nice. Most bands seem to speed up their songs for live performance.

Here is the entire set list if you are curious:
Road Zombie
So Far Away
King Of Fools
I Won't Run No More
Mommy's Little Monster
Sick Boy
Machine Gun Blues
Ball & Chain
Through These Eyes
Bakersfield
Sweet & Lowdown
Down Here With The Rest Of Us
Cold Feelings
Making Believe

Encore:
California Hustle & Flow
Can't Take It With You
Ring Of Fire
Story Of My Life

Surprisingly, the backup singers on the new album were actually on stage, but only during the first two songs of the encore. I didn't expect that at all.

RE: So?
Thanks for expanded report!

I've only seen SD a few times, but I've always gotten a charge both from those shows and their recordings.

Weird bringing along backup singers for 2 encores songs...
