Over at Seattle University, the questionably named Professionals Without Boundaries are a can-do, git-r-done group with all sorts of real-world skills that they like to put to use to benefit others.

PWOB was born in 2007, when a group of Seattle U Facility employees helped out on a service project in Nicaragua: "Along with SU students, they re-graded the front courtyard of an elementary school that was repeatedly flooding."

Using a "small is beautiful" sustainability model, they decided to keep going, working on small projects that connect students with skilled trades people (plumbers, electricians, engineers, etc.).

In 2011, these projects include the construction of waterwheels in multiple locations, including Zambia, Africa, and various improvements for the L'Arche Community in Seattle, Washington.

To help fund all this, they're holding a special benefit this evening, $60 per seat, in the Saint Demetrios Ballroom (2100 Boyer Avenue East). Things kick off at 5:30 p.m., and the event includes music and dancing, food and drink, a raffle, and live and silent auctions. The video below gives you a peek at their trip to Zambia, to improve the Munali High School for the Deaf and Blind.
