Construction repairing the west approach of the NE 45th Street Viaduct is right on schedule, says SDOT. The walls are more than 30 percent complete, and the reopening should occur on Friday, September 10, the day before the Huskies' first home game. If this shot has merely whet your appetite, SDOT has been taking their own pictures of the work, and posting them to Flickr.

No cost overruns?
I thought we were going to be on the hook big-time for this. Oh, wrong project.

Kudos to SDOT for a job well-done, to date. I really appreciated seeing those Flickr photos when I initially viewed them, posted within a day or so of the demolition, very timely. A similar thing happened when they replaced the expansion joints on the 520 bridge - very cool images and vid on their website, showing massive replacement seems being lowered into place. You guessed it, infrastructure nerd.

The historical shot (#2) is pretty scary; I can't believe I drove on something built like that.

RE: No cost overruns?
Obviously the initial concept was to run a roller coaster up and down it, not cars. And I would be spending A LOT more time at U Village if that were the case. Another instance of visionary thinking thwarted by small-minded hobgoblins.
