Fashion-forward retailer for penny-squeezers H&M (aka “Hennes & Mauritz”) has announced that this fall they’ll be opening a new store at The Outlet Collection Seattle, which is some place called Auburn. Naturally, our first response was to turn to Google Maps to confirm that Auburn is a real place. Not only is it south of Renton, it’s south of Kent, an area we’ve always imagined inhabited (on maps at least) by dragons with curlicue tails.
That’s a long way to bicycle on a cargo bike. Maybe reserve a Zipcar instead. After all, while you’re down there, you may want to visit such outlet stores as Banana Republic, Bed Bath & Beyond, Coach, Eddie Bauer, Levi’s, Nordstrom Rack, and Victoria’s Secret, to name just a few.
The 23,000-sq.-ft. store “will include collections for ladies, men, young ladies and young men, with separate ‘store within store’ sections for accessories and lingerie. This location will also carry H&M’s fantastic children’s collection, which features quality clothing for kids ages newborn to fourteen.”
The news has likely filled everyone’s mind, of course, with astonishment owing to the fact that it is difficult to image how much lower H&M outlet prices could be than the actual stores. For instance, a new summer top for ladies being sold online is $4.95. (Men, on the other hand, are being asked to fork over $24.95 for a short-sleeved collarless shirt.) What will fall bring at the outlet? Perhaps some unsold David Beckham bodywear. The mind reels, the pocketbook unsnaps.
