Mayoral candidates Mallahan and McGinn spent the week sparring with neither side landing a punch. At the end of the week, an argument over the search for a new police chief degenerated into each accusing the other of "politicizing" the mayoral race. If you're keeping score, these tit-for-tat exchanges are costing Mallahan more.

The Seattle school district released its new maps, which tilt towards the old neighborhood set-up in place before segregation was solved by putting kids on buses for two hours. Now more than ever, it matters where you live in Seattle. On the other hand, I-1033 threatens to pack kids in like sardines for years to come. 40 students to one teacher isn't uncommon these days, with chairs running short. Overcrowded classrooms and parents who don't believe in vaccines should help keep the swine flu in check!

Matt Goyer of Urbnlivn and Redfin.

"It should find the place that's for sale right here," Matt Goyer said, gesturing toward Trace Lofts as we stumbled blindly down 12th Avenue between Pike and Pine, both of us staring down at our iPhones as rush-hour traffic idled at the light. "So, it pulled out 1408 12th Avenue, number 407, so that's one of the two units for sale right now."

Just noticed on Facebook: an ad asking, "Do you think your girlfriend is cheating?" along with a map pointing "her" out...somewhere. Curious, I clicked through only to discover Mobile Spy, an online service that allows you to track where a cell phone is carried. Can we say, creepy?

This comes fast on the news that a Bellevue-based company called Intellius is developing a cute new iPhone app called DateCheck, geared towards women on the dating scene, which allows you to quickly run a background check on your date, including criminal records (by name...the most accurate search; I happen to have the same name and birth year as an Alabama child sex offender), financial info (a Kanye song comes to mind I won't quote here), and the fun stuff, like astrological signs and his interests as compiled from social networking technology.

All of which is to say, we've finally come up with a way to protect ourselves from sleazebags and creeps: by becoming sleazebaggier and creepier ourselves.
