Seattle Soundfest is turning out to be a really fun music fest! Day Two found me mostly at The Funhouse (where VIP pass holders are treated to free beer during happy hour) for Prima Donna, Neon Nights, The Riffs, The Avengers and Roxy Epoxy. Added to this was a quick trip over to El Corazon to catch The Vandals.
Last night was the second of two nights of pre-Soundfest shows. This one was at El Corazon and featured D Generation’s first show in over 12 years. Opening the show was Dead Relatives and Prima Donna. This was just a taste of the mayhem that is going to hit Seattle’s rock venues this weekend as three packed nights of music kick off in just a few hours. You can see the entire schedule on the Seattle Soundfest Schedule page.
Here are pictures of last night’s show. I’ll be bringing you daily galleries of the fest as the weekend goes on.
Last Thursday, Smoking Popes opened for Alkaline Trio at El Corazon. It was a very hot and sweaty punk rock show, and was probably the most packed I have seen El Corazon in quite a while. Smoking Popes played a good mix of both old songs and stuff from their new album This Is Only A Test. Alkaline Trio then came out and played favorite after favorite for the packed crowd. About halfway through the set, they switched to mostly acoustic instruments. The highlight had to have been when they invited the Smoking Popes back on stage to play a cover of the Violent Femmes’ “I Held Her in My Arms.”
Oh also, if you were paying attention, you should have noticed Mike Park was in the crowd! Pretty awesome.
