Take a Far Drive to an Unforgettable Farm-to-Table Dinner

If you’re a farm-to-table fan and missed the two Outstanding in the Field dinners in Carnation a month ago, you’ve got two more chances to enjoy a similar experience. If you’re willing to drive. To Pemberton, just north of Whistler.

I’m here to say it’s well worth the effort.

Last weekend, I attended the second of four Longtable dinners at North Arm Farm, sponsored by Araxi restaurant in Whistler. Pictured is your table-for-far-more-than-two, situated smack in the middle of the 60-acre farm.

Chef James Walt sets up his kitchen close to the table and can walk footsteps away to pick ingredients to create the freshest of four-course menus—this following a series of passed hors d’oeuvres.

Expect a farm tour followed by a fabulous meal. The one I attended included fried zucchini flowers stuffed with goat cheese (pictured), hot-smoked sockeye salmon with beets and peas, beef cheek fritter and rosemary roasted sirloin with chard and baby carrots, and strawberry ice cream dipped in dark chocolate along with an apricot-topped hazelnut financier.

Dinners (the next two are August 27 and September 11) cost $160.00 per person, inclusive of tax and gratuity. Note that the meal includes wine pairings, so if you plan to drink a lot, return transportation from Whistler Village is available for an additional $35.00 per person. With the spectacular view of Mount Currie and the surrounding area as a backdrop, you might just want to stay on the farm.
